All these magazines have a main image of a popular film, clearly establishing the genre of the film. the name of the magazine is at the top of the page with the image overlapping the name of the magazine or like in 'Sight and sound' it is in the left hand corner. so the image is the main attraction. all the magazines have taglines to the film that is propmiting for that week so it gives the readers a little taste of the film. They all have other films listed o nthe cover to give you an incite to what is featured i nthe magazine. They all use big bold texts to draw attentuion to the fact this is a film magazine. Empire and Film are mainstream magazines where as 'Sight and Sound is more along the lunes for a Niche audience.

In what ways does your media product, use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The selection of images shows stills from real horror teasers (top) and stills from my teaser (bottom).
1) The key horror conventions for this image is that it is set in a cellar of a house, a place full of the past to inhabit. The lighting is motivated, especially on the photo showing some significance to the trailer. It also shows a monster with a hidden secret and most importantly the return of the repressed. This is shown through the colours used and the fact it is an old photo. The mise-en-scene showing more photographs represents that their in alot involving this past life and the use of an old cream piece of cloth showing that this is not a new thing thats happened that it may have happened along time ago.
1) The similarities in our shot is the fact we have shown this is an old photo and a monsters past. We have only shown one photo with no other mise-en-scene to focus on the image. The lighting is non realistic shadowing on the actual image. The photo is at a more clear angle than the other shot above.
2) The key horror conventions in this still image is that the lighting is motivated showing how pale the ghost child is, at a medium close up not showing too much of the ghost but enough showing invasion of personal space.. It is based at night time yet is un clear about where this is set. From this image we are shown that this is ther main 'evil' character we are going to be seeing and that he will not be going away.
2) The similarities in our shot is that they both consist of some what of a close up, with the same devious look in the eyes. However they are different sexes. And we are un sure yet again where this is set at this moment in time. The lighting is low key coming from onw angle showing a shadow. we are told she too will be the main focuss of the movie and will have alot of power of the other characters.
3) They key conventions in this still is that there is dim lighting so you can not tell where this location is. However it is a place with a lot of history to it, with the statues at the door we are getting closer to showing this is nothing to do with our modernised world. It is a point of view shot as if we are seeing this through the monsters eyes. This has clearly been shot using hand held camera, and is a medium shot showing us the location but not too close so we can be given clues to how it links.
3) The similarities in this image is that it is in black and white connoting this is from the past and even though we are seeing the monster it is as if we are seeing it through her eyes. The Mise-en-scene is old fashioned, with the use of the old china doll, pgotographs and a cushion with old fashioned material on, the use of all these props are in fact key to the film. The lighting is motivated. It gives away a lot more than the image from above. We used a slightly canted angle to add more suspense but not too much as it still looks inncocent.
4) The key conventions for this still are that is showing clearly the return of the repressed. With motivated lighting as it is blue connoting coldness/Death. It is a long shot showing she is coming for you. It is an abandoned place where she was maybe killed. This girl has no props to show any sign of innocence. this shot tells you some of the narrative, that she is a girl who was probably killed att his locationa nd is now coming back for revenge.
4) The similarities with in this still is that she is as well a female, at a long distance shot, with motivated lighting of the kitchen. Even though they are different locations they are all at the scene from where they were supposedly killed. This still shows innocence of a child with the prop of the teddy bear. and even though this is modernised location it is showing that the dead dont move on, that what ever happened in this house she will be back to make everyones life who lives here terrible.
5) The key conventions of this still is it is seen as a low angle at a long shot showing this is the location is where it all happened and the fact this is  along shot connoting danger and not to get too close. The colours blue are used connoting coldness/death. This is natural lighting of the sun rising shinning through the location shows the place is historical, shows there is no other building like this. And that you have no clue what is inside.
5) The similarities in this still is that this is also a low angle of the location and at long shot giving it importance also telling us no to get too close. It is also in a cold colour, grey, used with natural lighting to make it seem like any other modernised house. And showing other houses attached to make it more realistic, showing a real family home. We are at eye level of the house to in a way make you feel equal to it, almost like a trick, because then when you get in awful things will happen.
6) The key conventions in this still image is that this is an extreme close up of a victims eye, this is because it looks as if it has just opened in terror. Motivated lighting is used to emphasise the colour of the eye showing innocence and to see the pupil large creating the realism of terror.
6) The similarities in this still image is the fact they both are opening there eyes in terror except with this image we see both eyes and the lighting is dim so the eyes shine more once open, we therefore see more characterisation as we see more of her and will recognise her later in the film. In this image we see sweat to show true terror in the victim. This also shows childhood innocence as it shows a part of her face.
7) The key conventions in this still image is that, it is clear it is set in a house, adding tension as it could happen in any house. The lighting is dim, yet motivated on the ghosts face so we are drawn to her. This shows this is a monster with a hidden secret or made psychotic by an earlier event. There is a slight colour of blue connoting death and coldness. we are at a slightly low angle to her connoting that this i sher house thatshe does not want anyone else in it, and that we are not seeing her from straight on we see her coming around the corner, maybe showing this film will be a jumpy.
7) The similarities in this still image are that we get a medium close up of the monster, except in this case her face is shadowed by the light so we are focussed on the bear to represent innocence, and we are seeing her from straight on so we feel as if she is in control. We can tell this is night time because of the shadows, and this is when most frightening stuff is supposed to happen. These are both females who look to appear to have been beaten due to the paleness and bruises on their face. Here we get clear characterisation as we can see her clearly and know she will bring bad horific times.
8) The key conventions in this still image are the setting is clear, this i sset in a house, in a kitchen, yet again modernised meaning something has come back from the past. The lighting is dim with hints of blue connoting that fact it is night time. The black smoke represents the ghost haunting the house, and black to connote evil. The camera is at a low angle maybe showing a victim looking at the ghost and not wanting to be seen.
8) The similarities with this still image is the fact we see a little bit of the ghost here as well from a low angle. Except for the fact we can see the body of the ghost, making you think is this a ghost or a monster?so we can see clearly that this is set in a home, however there is still no mise-en-scene so we dont know if this is a family household, a new couple, friends moving in togetehr The lighting is motivated, not as dark and grim. However there is a use a shadows of the railings of the stairs.
9) The key conventions in this still image is that the location is clear we see the evil ghost and the main protagonist, Short depth of field is used, and the main protagonist has no idea the ghost is behind him. The lighting is motivated as it is meant to be during the day wanting to show the protagonist so it is clearly shown he cant see the ghost. The plant at the window shows he is look outside rather than in to another room. however we still have no clues whether this is a family house hold or a man living on his own.
9) This still image has some similarities in the sense it is yet again a short depth of field shot, and that the main protagonist can not see the ghost, however this is at a high angle and the ghost is looking subjectively. The lighting is motivated by the bathroom light still showing it is night time. we do this time get some clue to there is more than one person living here as in the back ground when looking carefully we see two toothbrushes.

Hoe did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During the filming process first of all I had to use a video camera to film different parts of our trailer, before filming I had to make sure it was not in wide screen, and use different camera shots such as extreme close ups. Close ups and long shots by using the zoom button to add effect. I also used this to film parts in black and white.
I used ‘Final Cut Pro’ to capture all the footage I had shot. There was an awful lot of footage and had to capture each shot one at a time and name them differently so it was easier to put them on the timeline, to do that I would drag it in to the first window and choose how much of the shot I would want buy pressing ‘I’ to start the shot and ‘O’ to stop where I wanted it to end , and did this continuously for every shot I used. I also used this programme to add effects such as ‘Bad T.V’ to make the shot flicker to add tension, we made our inter-titles using this programme by typing in what text we wanted, chnaginf the colour of the font, and the background to make it fit in with the horror genre, after that we also chose the transition we wanted, on how we wanted it to enter the shot and exit.. There are other effects such as changing the speed to make it faster or slower in some cases. I change the colour of some shots such as black and white to make it clear which shots were from the past and what shots were from the present , simply by clicking on the image in the window and turning it around however much i wanted. . I also chose to make some of my shots canted angles to create disturbing images. we used the timeline to chnage the order of where some shots went and where the music would be. We used effects to fade in and out shots by using the dotted tool.

When we had finished our trailer next was to create the music for it and for this I used ‘Garge band’  which i only used for making sound effects, such as, big drum noises, Thunder claps, and to even add dialogue where i would record my own voise and edit it the wau i wanted. But for our trailer we had singing so we recorded us singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and changed our voice in to a little girls. We also used a lot of 'Izmir Ambience'  which is one of the sounds that were already on the programme whcih made the beginning of our trailer.

We got our main soundtrack form a website called ‘Creative Common’s sound’ where it gave lists of different soundtracks of every genre and we had to type in words that relate to our trailer and we would get lists of soundtracks for it. And when we found the one wanted we downloaded it and then imported it in to final cut pro to add to our timeline.

I used ‘You Tube’ to upload our trailer so we could show people of our target audience and get feedback on what they liked about it and what they didn’t .

I had to use a normal standard camera to take pictures I was thinking of using for my magazine cover and poster using.

I had used ‘Photoshop’ to create a magazine front cover where I has to choose a magazine and basically copy the layout of it and make it our own, I would upload my image I wanted to use and change everything about it to make it look scary I used tools such as, feathering, magic wand to cut around the image, change the brightness and contrast, the curves and used shapes to create the full layout. I did the same for making my poster except this time I was focussing on my image adding as any effects as I could same as what I have said just a bit stronger than what I would use on a magazine. I had to make billboids showing everyone who was in the process and choosing a readable yet appropriate text.

Finally I used ‘Blogger’ to upload all my information I have learnt over the past few months and my trailer I created. i find useing blogger a much easier, simpler way of keeping all my work on, as it is all on one page and i dont have to worry about losing pieces. I like the fact i can decortate my blog to however i want so it can link in to the horror genre more as it made me feel as if i was making a more professional portfolio. the only disadvantages is that it is not easy to upload you images on to blogger as you can put it on the editing space fine but it comes up all messy on your blog so i had to resort to using photoshop just so it looked neater, but it was extremly time restricting.

What have you learnt from the audience feedback?

I had asked a range of males and females aged seventeen and eighteen to watch my teaser trailer, and asked them to say what they thought was good and bad in terms of a teaser trailer and say what they thought was good and bad in terms of the horror genre, and if they would go to watch it.

The good comments said about our teaser in terms of the horror genre was that they enjoyed the fact we used a little girl making it typical iconic horror using a teddy bear to represent innocence which was said to be more disturbing, they also liked the convention of ‘The Final Girl’. However it was said it would have been nicer if they had a chnace to interact with her more to feel connected to her. Everyone liked our music we put together, they said they liked the drum noises on the ghost and the fact we had the same soundtrack all the way through just quieter at the start with other effects to create more tension. The song ‘Happy Birthday’ was popular as it linked in to the plot and you heard the little girls voice which had a creepy effect as they didn’t hear it again. They said it had a great build up although the ending was flat they said it would have been better for a more shocking ending. One main part a lot of people commented on and didn’t like was our structure, they didn’t like the fact it went slow, fast, slow they though it would have been better if it just cut off on a more shocking note. Motivated lighting was mentioned a lot, said it gave a horror effect and the use of the match stick on the birthday cake from the past to show this is the past.

There was a lot of comments on what they though was good and bad about it as a teaser trailer. As I have said they enjoyed the load thunder claps when they saw the three characters as they were able to interact with them however they wanted to see more of them so they could really get to know them a bit. liked the pace of the trailer said it really went well un till the ending as they thought it was flat. even though they enjoyed the black and white shots some people said they did not get it was representing the past. The music was popular they said they knew it was about a ghost in the first place but it gave it a little more terror. a lot of people enjoyed the gore in it, it showed that the film would have had a lot of gore how ever there was one or two people who said that they didn’t like the fact they saw gore as it gave too much away that people were going to die vicious deaths, they would have preferred it if it was left to their imagination. Everybody really liked the broken up inter titles as it told them about the importance of the location and why it was called ‘Happy Birthday’ the inter title “Now she’s back to celebrate” was most popular as it gave a great horror atmosphere as after it was a lot of death and gore shots. Also the fact at the end of our trailer there was a website which made it look professional.

Some idea people said they we could have improve don if we had the time was, we could have included dialogue a few screams and one or two of the characters saying how scared they were as they would have felt they knew more about the characters, or something along them lines as the inter titles said everything you needed to know about the plot. And as I have said people said we should have had a more dramatic ending, they liked out middle how fast it was and the shots we used but they though the slow ending lost effect, especially the part where there was blood dripping off the ladder as it was said it didn’t look realistic.

Over all i have taken in the opinions of the people who gave us out feedback, i do believe that our trialer was good. but after listening to people i do think we could have introdced our characters more so people already felt a connection to the teenagers in it, which i think would have made people want to see it, as it would have been people their age in the film, making people feel like it could happen to them. I thnk we need get some of the narrative accross, a few people did say they would have liked to have known more with in the trailer, however i do disagree with that comment because if we wuld have revealed more, they most probably would not have seen it as they would know what it was fully about. so i believe we got the balance right in that case.

How effective is the combination of your main product and an texts?

All of my products, the magazine, the poster and my trailer work well together as they all feature the main demon girl and show her with the same facial expression throughout which I think is a great effect as I believe that her eyes say everything you need to know about her. Even though in all three we see the demon I think it works out well because she doesn’t not give anything away, if she has any weapons, any powers we are left to our imagination. All of my products tell the audience that this is a film about a little girl who is coming back to celebrate her or a birthday and get revenge on innocent people who will be featured in the film and the trailer tells you this is going to happen to the three girls featured in it.

The poster shares the similar conventions to what a professional poster should have, for example, it establishes the theme of the movie, it has a memorable tagline which is also featured in the trailer. It also shows who the film was made by, the directors, producers, the writers ECT for a more professional look. Many effects were used on the images to make it look like it belonged in the horror genre. All my products worked well in the sense of the little demon girl as she never changes apart from in my magazine poster she has her hair neatly up so people would miss-judge her and be more surprised In the film. It is telling the audience that this little girl used to live here as i have made her eyes parts of the glass used for the front door looking out at us. i think that her eyes are telling people not to enter this house like it is hers and nobody else should come in, and i believe people would see this.

The little girl is look subjectively in all three products to show she is engaging with audience to make you feel on edge. As I have said she uses the same facial expression, and she is continuously in the night gown. I believe that my poster and magazine are encouraging people to watch the trailer as on the magazine the little girl looks harmless and on the poster she looks a little bit more vicious, and finally in the trailer she is absolutely creepy because she still does not say anything apart from sing a part of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song.
i think foccusing the little girl in all three products shows that there is alot of information to learn about her. The poster and magazine give the audience mixed signals, it makes them question is this a girl coming back from the dead as a monster or is she a ghost or just a normal girl who ends up turnig evil. And this is wear the trailer comes in, it then shows she is in fact  a ghost coming back to kill, for reasons that are left un known.

Over all i believe that all our three products link in well togetehr as it leads you up to something you though wouldnt be as scary as you would have thought. it leaves you thinking of so mnay conclusions, the fact osmeone is back from dead as a ghost leaves you curious and i think all mt products show this in the order of which it would have actually been shown to the public.

existing posters research

#

Looking att hese posters has made medecide on what i chose to create i had learnt the typical horror conventions just by looking at these different child horror posters. all of them show the child in some way either with a vicious facial expression or just without one. they either have a back ground of which plays some significance in the film or its a plain background to ficus on the child. or in the univited poster we do not see the person bt somene looking in to the house which i chose to do but the other way around.
I chose to focus on the little girl but add in a background for my poster to establish the location of the movie. i didnt want to use a facial expression in the chid as like in the 'orphan' i believe it gave more effect as it shows she is heartless and has no remorse for what she does, i chose like in 'the ring' to go for a girl who was from the past wearing the old night gown but use the orphans facial expression so no one wuld know why she is back as she does not look beaten or look like she is back for remorse but that is what would surprise you i the actualy film.

My pitch for a new horror movie

The man of my nightmares

It begins with a teenage female aged sixteen has been having dreams about a male in in a brown cloak, bald torturing and brutally murdering other female teenagers in every room of her house, and saying she swears she has seen the man at the bottom of her bed, and every night these dreams progress to each room of her house. She is very scared of these dreams and plucks up the courage to tell her five closest friends at school, they think it is rather halarious and put it down to her just having nightmares and one of her friends suggest a sleep over to 'catch' this evil ghost she says she has seen, and one of them will bring along a video camera for footage. Coincidently her parents are away for the weekend at a wedding.
At the actualy sleep over it is just like any other, they are in the living room, chatting eating lots of food, fooling around with the camera when one of the girls sees something while filming. They look back at it and the female protagonist syas that thats the man she has been dreaming about, suddenly all the power goes off and another one of her friends goes to sort out the power so she goes through the see through sliding dorr and when she closes it she is then attacked by and has a very slow and gorey death while her friends sit and watch as the only way out was through the sliding door and it is somehow locked. the female protagonist looks in to the mirror in that room just to look away and sees the face of the man and shouts "Thats the man from my nightmares".
These sotuation happen to all of her friends in all the rooms she had dreamt about. She is very distressed and calls the police but as the only witnesses of he rstory are dead and there is no evidence that anyone else was there and she is the only surviver she is then arrestted for the brutal murder's and when put in to the police car she looks up to the bedroom window and sees the ghost standing there.

Explore how the genre represents woman

I have researched how woman are represented in horrors in films such as ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Shining’. Involving what each female wears showing such things as sexuality, how woman are portrayed when ‘fighting’ basically how woman supposedly act when put in danger, how us as the audience see how woman are seen as and how woman are seen the total opposite to men.
In my opinion woman are always shown as being weak. To begin with when looking at the sizes of woman they are all fairly slim, which can help with the concept of the woman in horrors of being weak, venerable and basically there for there physical beauty. They are also stereotyped under certain roles either through domestic or sexuality. For example in ‘Halloween’ Annie and Laurie are babysitting making popcorn for the children and making sure they are changed for bed therefore taking on the motherly domestic role. Sexuality is shown by Annie wearing a males shirt showing off her legs and showing hoe petite she is. Even main protagonists are seen to be sexual for the male eye and for females to desire them, for example Lara Croft she is seen in little black shorts and a tight vest top with rough hair what some men like to call ‘sex hair’ where as men in action movies actually wear suitable clothes such as trousers and jumpers. As more movies are made females continue to be seen in a sexual nature by wearing males shirts or even being naked.
All woman in horrors are heterosexual woman they never show a lesbian relationship. I think this is because horrors are made mainly for men as they seem to like gore and scary films. As I have said woman are represented as being weak an didn’t shows on their deaths. For example when Annie is murdered in Halloween she kicks and screams, waving her arms in the air not in any temp on hitting ‘Michael’. and when Linda is strangled by Michael with the telephone cord she does nothing but swing her arms in the air in panic. Doing the typical ‘attack’ what males expect us females to do not being able to defend our selves properly even though the boyfriend doesn’t defend himself. Also it occurs to me that when looking back on horrors people always remember the females deaths first, as I have said before females are seen as weak and the gender to be killed due to our sexuality and strength. How ever when looking back at the boyfriends death on ‘Halloween’ he does not put up a fight just stands still which you would think to be more feminine that not attempting to break free like the females do.
When watching horror films the woman are seen as objects, how ever when we are watching woman being treated I this way no one seems to reflect on it as it has become normal to our society. For example in ‘The shining’ Jack shouts and Wendy ‘will you just fuck of’ and she obeys to it and leaves him alone. After watching the film no one made any comments on how he treated her, they commented her on how she ran and screamed, making a joke out of it. In ’Halloween’ ‘Lynda’ is treated as a sex object as when they enter the house all the male thinks about is sex and she allows him to treat her this way and yet again when we were discussing this as a class no one had any problem with the way she was treated.
The male gaze uses camera shots such as point of view shots use specifically to show how woman are treated as sex objects for example, when Annie is in a males shirt ’Michael’ looks at her legs and works his way up to the top showing woman are represented as being just physical beauty nothing else on the lines of being intelligent and wise. With point of view shots come tilts for zooming up the body showing desire for the woman. I have noticed that in both the films there is not a close up of facial expressions or at the face at all showing that all males care about it a good body for sexual reasons. With this it denies woman in the films such as Annie and Lynda on having any chance of being seen as anything serious. When comparing this to action films I do think there is such thing as ‘female gaze’ for example in ’James Bond’ films there is a scene where he is walking out of the sea and there is a tilt up showing his masculine body, How ever it is not as serious as how woman are treated through films as ‘us’ woman are seen as this in our society where as men are not. The final girl is normally seen as quite masculine, yes she may dress in a feminine way but when put in danger her reaction are watching a has males may fight.
Propp had made a list of eight character roles and not to my surprise when reading through them, without even having to watch a horror you can tell what role the females will get. Roles such as ‘The Princess’ and ‘The false hero’. Woman are shown to be in a way useless with a quote from ‘The critical eye’ “Laurie drop the knife twice, for no good reason” also when Laurie thinks she has killed ‘Michael’ she doesn’t turn around to make sure he is dead she waits to turn around when it is too late, showing that woman don’t have common sense showing men could have done a better job.
Over all woman are represented as only sex objects and to be seen as useless when it comes to anything else. Even Laurie she is not shown to be a sexual object she is just seen to be good at academics. In my opinion men will always be seen as ‘The Hero’s’ who are strong, masculine and ‘Have the brains’ and woman will always be seen as weak and only good for physical beauty.

The role of the Distributor-
To begin with they have to consider on how much the dilm they want to distribute on how much it will make they do this by preparing a budjet, they must re coup all costs and turn them in to profit. They have to research films which will appeal to a particular audience. There biggest challenge is to attract a wide spread audience identyfying with a niche and mainstream auidnece. mainly aimed at teenagers, students and young adults. Distributors ocassionally have a pre release testing, marketing campaigns get people to fill in questionnairs and after doing so give them an oppotunity to watch the film to make the Distributors feel more confiedent with the film. There biggests dilema is competition, they have to see what other films other Distributors will go for, when they will be released and is the target audience similar. also looking at if any other film has any major stars featured in it, and when selecting their actors they have to see if they are ablw to attend publicity events such as premieres. Finally the Distributors views the finished film and confirms the release plan.

Marketing plan-
There main objective is to creat visibility. Distributors must compete for a significant share of voice not only aganst other distributors but also other lesuire activities. The main target is to persuade audiences that this is the best film eveer and you must see it. They aim to reach as much as their target audience as possible so for differeent audiences they must use different ways in marketing the film for example teenagers are better reached online so having a website for the film is an idea, however this can be bad because as people leave comments about the film some maybe bad and may stop others from wanting to see it. ways of marketing the film would be posters to show the stars that are in the film, the genre, tagline and maybe even a teaser poster. Thee are trailers Distributors prepare campaigns including short and extended clips from the film. Publicity such as clolumns, interviews for cast including a photographer. Some such as animated movies may use merchandising such as toys, ring tones, clothing and screen savers.

Distribution plan-
Distributors supplies the film, the exhibitors provide the screens and arrangements are reviewed week by week. If the film is a blockbuster it will be seen in a mulit-plex normal cinemas show broad spectrum titles. There has to be print management The distribution print managers arrange for prints to be dispatched to every cinema. The first weekend is crucial so all the advertising they have done comes down t this point, substaining a release and keeping it is the main challenge. Normally the box office takings are printed in the paperbut the sums that distribution earn are less than htese figures. a normal working week would be Looking at new releases to see what genre of film is most popular and is they can do anything different, see is there are any previews planned. they can not put there money in to a film which is very similar to the film showed in the week or if it stands no chnace in making all its money back.

Sorority Row - Official Trailer

The genre is clearly presented by the use of mise-en-scene and music. There are recognisable celebrities fetaured in the film. There are inter titles that appear after there has been a death. There is a white screen for a few seconds showing a time gap fro mthe accident to them graduating. There are no production values apart fro mthe name of the film.

The target audience is yet again teenagers aged between 16-25 as this is based a soriety in college. this would mainly be for females in the sense of this is about a group if girls, also for males simply for the woman.

The music is similar to a typical horror trailer, you here natural sounds in the background with notes being held to keep your eyes on the screen. While there is a party scene they use the music that is used in the actual movie to show some realism and make you feel as if you are at the party and is also a useful tool to use so you get a better understanding about the film. The ending has loud drum and singing to make and keep the tension/suspension.

There is a mixture of diologue and a voice over to i suppose add more tension. and the fact they are both mixed up does add tension because as you are being told the plot the voice over draws you in and adds more suspense for the audience.

This does have all the key conventions to a perfect horror trailer, it keeps you watching because of the fast pace and mixture of diologue, voice over and music.

Mutants Teaser Trailer

The movie genre is obviously horror from the setting at the start, set in winter and very snappy clips of fighting (wich yes you would asume action) but the fact it is shown to be an issolated place and the fact that it flickers showing that something is not right. it has the name f the movie at the end like all the other trailers i have written about it does not have many production values as this is a foreign trailer i can not understand what it says but there is some writing which i assume to be writing about the movie (inter-titles) apart from that there is nothing else said about about production.

The target audience for this film i would think to be for teenagers aged 16 to adults up to maybe even 30, i say this because the two caracters appear to be within the ages of twenty and thrity but also appealing to teenagers for the fact this is a horror.

There is no music at the start just the radio which does not seem to have alot of signal as it is crackily saying of a what i am guessing saying about how bad the storm is getting. There is a little sound of an un natural creature and a constant soud of a beep for when it chnaes to another shot suggesting this is maybe a hospital. There is silence for a second to add tension before the female protagonist is made jump. it goes bck to crackily sounds and one constant note held with sound sof what is in the film, crshes, couching up blood. silence when what i assume the couple are speaking. to then a sound of a bite and a crunch at the end.

There is dialogue of characters within the film but no actual 'voiceover' to show realism. the pieces chosen are when the radio is on which is a vital part giving the audience the plot side to it, and a scene when the 'couple' are talking showing love.

This does use all the key conventions apart from all the production values ans works well when brought together. How ever we are not sure about the plot and are nt yet again introduced to the characters and are un sure on the location.

The house on the left

The genre of the movie is clearly shown as it is shown in an issolated place and the fact that the camera is hand held and it is three teenagers hanging out having fun shows that the will possibly be killed is the music was not involved then you would not thikn it was a horror. The production values used are 'This spring' and 'Coming soon' and at the end shows who directed it produced it screen played it and so on.

The target audience is shown to be young teenager aged between 17 to 25 as this is how old the characters look except for the mother and father, even though this is shown to be family fighting for their lifes it is ot targeted for the family. as wel as having dialogue it feature s inte titles asking the audience questions which we could actually answer "what lengths would you go to save your family?"

The music at the beginning is two single notes on a piano repeating as the audience finds out who the characters are. The music chnages when three villians walk in to the room there is a thud and a note held which sounds 'woblly' there are thuds when it chnages to different clips silence when the villian is talking and builds up again, the music finally starts when the 'Final girl' runs away the typical build up and big noise and then going back to random thuds un till the final girl turns up again then there is a mix of music thuds, light piano music, an actual song with lyrics showing the connection between the family as well as the typical noises you here i nthe horror.

there is no voice over but dialogue throughout showing the plot and key speaches to show both sides of good and evil. With the dialogue it shows us there is a case of the monstercoming out of the good people in this case the mother and father to save their daughter and themselves.

The difference with this ofical trailer and a teaser is that we get the full plot of what is goig to happe so we can bond wit hthe characters more it gives the audience a bit of everything inter titles music the plot and the scare factor.

scream 3 teaser trailer

The genre is clearly shown at te very beginning of the trailer with the villian jumping up to kill someone. The name of the movie is not shown un till th end of the trailer and with that it has inter titles with the name of what production comapny it is with and a lost of people eho are involved wth making the movie but no names of any famous actors or ratings

The target audience is shown by having all the characters at a young age targeting the young generation, teenagers and early twenties aged between 14-25 who are moderatly attractive bringing in views of both sex.

The music is intense and jumpy the sounds gte louder as the trailer goes on adding more tension to keep the auidience hanging on to see whats going to happen. The music is filled with violins and a piano the use of the violins shows that the film will make you jump and the murders will be surprise attacks, with sounds of dorrs slamming and screams to show anxciety.

There is a continuous viceover throughout it starts ff with the villians voice leading in to he official vice over but it goes back and forth from someone speaking from the film to the male doing the voice over so as it goes along the lines the characters say link in to what the voice over is saying. The result of this makes the trailer fast paced so you don't really understand what is happeneing but oyu seem to remeber it and want to watch it gain in case you missed anything

this teaser is different from official tralers because we dont know the plot and have not been introduced to any characters properly.

vision teaser trailor

object width="560" height="340">

This teaser trailer does follow the conventions of a movie trailer. it shows the name of the movie and has inter-titles. the sounds used are clues to what may happen in the film rater than just music played continuously. it has a very small voice over from what maybe the villian. there is splattered blood showing that this maybe a gory film, there is also screaming and heavy breathing the same as any other trailer.
There are some production values seen on this trailer. There is one main special effect from whan watchig this closely you see very quick flashes of faces of what could be vitims or villians.
there is a zoom in to the television hinting there maybe recorded deaths? there i also the name of te writer/director and the person who stars in it at the start before you see anything that may give you more cluesto wha tte film is about.

Props theory

I believe that props theroy is not fully reliable i think that the majority of the structures he has put in to the theory are right, they fit in with the horror genre how ever i think they are muddled up for example in the preperation section i don't believe that the 'villian finds something about the victum' at the start of the film because in most horrors the villian does not know the victum or in this case in 'The shinning' he already knew everything about wendy therefore he did not find any weaknesses. However i do agree with the character listings and think that there can be more than one charscter for each role. for example in 'The shining' hallorann can be seen as the hero, the false hero and the doner.
over all i agree with what he is trying to do and i do believe it helps because it makes you think of certain aspects in more detail.

The return of the repressed

The return of the repressed is the process where the repressed elements (holding back on a act of violation) is, built up/saved in the unconscious,it presses on normal thoughts trying to getout. it then reappears, in consciousness or in behavior, and the person not able to stop it.
this relates to horror as you have lie in most films have someone or something come back to life from the past to kill people they want to get revenge on.

Friday, 18 September 2009

I have chosen 'The Unborn' as it is a very jumpy film and scared me so much in the cinema!!.the music makes you feel so uncomfortable especially the little boys scream. and the fact you actually don't know how it will end where as most films you have some idea.

key conventions

the genre of the movie i shown clearly with the little boys voice sounding disturbed
the first piece of text shown is 'rogue pictures' .the name of the movie is shown at the end but through outit has the name of the producer, co- writers, 'this january' 'he wants to be born'and at the end has a repeat of the names just in case they have not been seen.
The most tense pieces of the trailor are:the little boy at the start saying 'he wants o be born now' when she see's herself being killed by the little boy. when some kind of unexplained creatur comes through the walls to get her. tye man crawling up the stairs and his neck turns right around, when the old lady is ging to be attacked and the end scene of the exorcism.
the music at the star is the odd sound of a drm beat sounding like a heart beat to make the audience feel tension. after the line 'he wants to be born now the music becomes very loud and all of s sudden goes i nto a more lighter sound showing her everyday life but with that hint of scarce to show she is in dangeras th grandmother explains what happened i the past the musc is very intense with drums and whispering with the occasional high pitched scream the drumming is continuous throught out to show the rate of a heart beat with this music you find your heart pumping alog at the same time. There is then a build up towards the end with the odd 'jumpy' moments to get you ready for the big scene. yoou also get one single note being held quietly before a big souns of a drum to show you this is more of a supernatural movie. and towards the end getting a chior singing in very low voices showing what ever this is it is coming fat.
there is a voice over through out but it is from main lines for mthe movie so the audence understands what te plot is with lines such as 'he wnats to be born now' ' you are a twin' 'your mother never tols you but i knew' 'by living oyu denied it entry to our world' 'do you think it's possible to be haunted by somene who was never born' even though she is asking her friend in the scene this we see this as her asking us so it plays on our mind.
i agree with the key conventions and without these we would not get an incite of what was actually going o nand we probably wouldnt be interested.
In my opinion i think the conventions in the trailer do really sell the film, it shows the audience what the plot is based on without mentioning too much on how it happened and why it is coming for the main protagonist.
